The Bangor Village Board chose Gregg Peterson to replace Robin Gjertsen as its new president. The vote Tuesday eveningwas 3-2, with Kristy O’Heron, Dave Sampson and Peterson voting for and Eric Vaughn and Chris Robertson voting against.
Peterson, was elected to the board last April after a last-minute write-in campaign that garnered him the most votes in the spring election. His election as village president fills the void left when Gjertsen died in November.
Peterson will fill out the remainder of Gjertsen’s term, which expires in April 2011.
The board also voted retired state trooper Jeff Radke to fill out the remainder of Peterson’s term (also expiring in April 2011).
The vote to put Radke on the board was identical to the vote that put Peterson in the president’s seat, with Vaughn and Robertson voting against and the rest of the board voting for.
When Trustee Kimberly Shrake resigned last month, it created another vacancy on the board. Vaughn made a motion (seconded by Robertson) to have former board member Dan Hesse fill out the remainder of Shrake’s term.
That motion was defeated 3-2, with Sampson, O’Heron and Peterson voting against it. Radke, who had taken his seat on the board only moments before, abstained, saying he would need more time to get to know everyone.
Shrake’s seat will therefore remain open for a couple more months until after the April 6 spring election. Three seats will be up for grabs in that election, with four candidates announced. They are: Hesse, O’Heron, Kevin Hilby and Eric Faas.
O’Heron will be the only incumbent in that race. Shrake’s seat and Vaughn’s seat will both be open as Vaughn did not file for re-election.
