The winter parking issue concerned Fairview Street. Police Chief Scott Alo told the board it would be much easier for snow plowing operations if residents parked only on the north side of the street. A motion was made by Kristy O’Heron and seconded by Dave Sampson to restrict overnight parking on the south side of Fairvew Street from 11 p.m to 5 a.m. between Nov. 15 and April 15.
The motion was carried without a dissenting vote.
Later in the meeting, Public Works Director Steve Baker reviewed the status of the Weldon Street reconstruction project. He told them the tab for redoing the road, replacing part of the water main and possibly adding some ditches would be in the neighborhood of $237,000.
Adding Bangor Street into the equation would raise the cost to about $1.3 million. Baker said there are a number of grants out there for similar projects, but at this point he would need the board’s approval to go forward with a letter of intent.
After some discussion of the curb and gutter situation on Weldon Street, a motion was made by O’Heron and seconded by Eric Vaughn to move forward with the letter of intent.
Meanwhile, the discussion of curb and gutter issues was tabled until Baker can get some quotes and receive input from residents.
In other news, the board approved $50 end-of-year bonuses for village and utility staff and the purchase of a new laptop for use by the police department in its squad cars.
On the agenda for next month’s meeting will be the naming of a new village president to replace Rob Gjertsen, who recently died after a long battle with leukemia. The new president will come from the ranks of current trustees and when he or she assumes the office of village president, a trustee position will open up.
The board can then fill the vacant position either by appointment or by holding a special election.
Former Trustee Dan Hesse was in attendance at the Dec. 9 meeting and expressed an interest in returning to the board. Hesse resigned from the board last January for undisclosed reasons.
Budget hearing Friday in Bangor
The Bangor Village Board will hold its annual budget hearing Friday at 5:30 p.m. at Bangor Village Hall. The hearing had to be rescheduled from its original date of Dec. 1 after not enough trustees attended to reach a quorum.
