West Salem’s tax rate for 2010 was set at $3.14 per $1,000 of assessed value at last week’s public budget hearing and subsequent village board meeting.
Taxes on a $100,000 home will be $314.45. The tax rate marks an increase of 0.96 percent over 2009.
The overall village tax rate, which combines the West Salem School District, La Crosse County, Western Technical College, Neshonoc Lake District, West Salem Fire District and the State of Wisconsin is $17.19 per $1,000 of valuation.
That’s an overall increase of 8.63 percent over the year before.
No citizens attended the public hearing.
Also levied with the village tax is the West Salem Fire District tax, which is roughly $0.33 per $1,000 in assessed property value. That figure was previously set by its governing board. Village residents owning a home valued at $100,000 would pay $32.56 to the fire district.
Total revenues and expense for 2010 are balanced at $2,154,321 compared with the $2,187,353 budgeted for 2009. That’s a decline of 1.53 percent.
The total levy is $1,025,952 compared to $994,791 budgeted for 2009. The 2010 levy figure includes the $33,011 increase allowed under levy limits and the $96,279 the village collects for the West Salem Fire Protection District.
