Police have begun to enforce alternate side parking ordinances with snow-plowing season bearing down on the Coulee Region.
Motorists who park on the street overnight will have to be mindful of what day it is because both West Salem and Bangor will issue tickets between 1 and 6 a.m. for cars parked on the wrong side of the street. Parking restrictions in West Salem run through April 1.
In both municipalities, the date at midnight determines whether to park on the even or odd side of the street. If it becomes Dec. 4 at midnight, for example, then vehicles must be parked on the even side of the street.
Cars parked on the wrong side of the street in Bangor are subject to $10 fines that double after 10 days. In West Salem the fine is $8 and it doubles after 10 days.
In addition, Bangor now prohibits night parking on the north side of Bangor Street between 1 a.m. and 8 a.m. “Signs have been put up in that area so people should be aware,” Alo said.
