Elizabeth ‘Liz’ M. Pischke
WEST SALEM — Elizabeth “Liz” M. Pischke, 87, of West Salem died Monday, Dec. 1, 2008, at Hillview Health Care Center in La Crosse. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Presbyterian Church of West Salem. Burial will be in Neshonoc Cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Jostad-Jandt Funeral Home in West Salem and 10 a.m. to services Saturday at the church. Memorials may be given to the Alzheimer’s Association. Irene M. Dunlap
WEST SALEM — Irene M. Dunlap, 91, of West Salem died Sunday, Nov. 30, 2008, at Hillview Health Care Center in La Crosse.
She was born Sept. 27, 1917, in the town of Onalaska to George and Helen (Hoffman) Bruemmer. Irene grew up in La Crosse and worked at her parents grocery store and restaurant during her early school years.
On Dec. 27, 1938, she married Rex Dunlap in West Salem, and he preceded her in death on Oct. 2, 1997. Irene and her husband raised nine children, and during that time, she worked at the West Salem Bakery (now Linda’s Bakery). She came up with the cake doughnut recipe that is still being used today.
After their children were grown, Irene became very involved in crocheting and crafts and also had taught some crocheting classes. She was proud of her family, especially of her six sons who all served in the military. Irene also enjoyed reading and music. She was a member of Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church in West Salem.
Survivors include nine children, Lloyd Bruemmer of St. Louis, Willard (Audrey) Dunlap of Albuquerque, N.M., Willis (Beverly) Dunlap and Marlin (Sharon) Dunlap, both of Billings, Mont., Sharon (Gary) Weaver of Kenosha, Wis., Betty Bahr of La Crosse, George (Sandra) Dunlap of La Grange-Highlands, Ill., Raymond Dunlap of Chattanooga, Tenn., and Jean (Thomas) Godfroy of Watertown, Wis.; 13 grandchildren, Wayne (Diane) Bruemmer, Kristine (Stephen) Wade, Marlo (Phil) Holbrook, Sherrie (Steven) Pryse, Michael (Julia) Seidel, Debra (Bruce) Wigand, Jeffery (Janet) Bahr, Jason (Kelley) Bahr, Johnathon (Amy) Bahr, Eric (Wendy) Dunlap and Todd (Julie) Dunlap; 22 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; two grandsons, Timothy and Kenneth Dunlap; one brother, Harold (Ethel) Bruemmer; and one sister, Adeline Bruemmer.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 5, at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, 500 Park St., West Salem. Pastor Joel Stuebs will officiate. Burial will be in Neshonoc Cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Friday from 10 a.m. until time of services.
Memorials may be given to Christ Evangelical Lutheran School, West Salem.

William Q. Jeffers
BLUFFTON, Ind. — William Q. Jeffers, 60, passed away Saturday, Nov. 29, 2008.
He was the son of the late Quentin and Olive Jeffers. He retired from General Motors in 2005. A graduate of West Salem High School in 1966, and a U.S. Army veteran. Member of United Auto Workers.
Surviving is his wife, Karen (Helke) Jeffers of Bluffton; and two daughters, Ann Leyman of Keystone, Ind., and Kristine (Edward) Pharoah of Huntington, Ind.; four brothers, Michael (Connie) Jeffers of Cottage Grove, Wis., James (Susan) Jeffers of West Salem, Charles (Tammy) Jeffers of Bangor and Robert (Suzanne) Jeffers of Mequon, Wis.; four sisters, Kathleen Crawford of Janesville, Wis., Patricia (Scott) Marshall of Holmen, Margaret (Matt) Sanders of Melrose and Judith (Jaime) Gamboa of Franklin, Wis.; six grandchildren; three foreign exchange daughters, Hilke Stromann of Germany, Carly De Jong and Pokey Steen of the Netherlands.
A daughter, Shannon Jeffers, is deceased.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Holy Scripture Evangelical Lutheran Church, Fort Wayne, Ind. (www.holyscripturefw.org). Calling will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Goodwin Memorial Chapel, 3220 E. State Road 124 Bluffton, Ind., and one hour prior to the service at the church. Sidney ‘Sid’ Nesseth
SPARTA — Sidney “Sid” Nesseth of Sparta passed away peacefully with his son, Tom, and daughter-in-law, Patti, at his side at Tomah VA Hospital on Monday, Nov. 24, 2008.
Sidney was born July 28, 1933, in West Salem to Peter and Solva (Wekseth) Nesseth.
Sid served in the U.S Army during the Korean War from 1950 to 1953. He worked at La Crosse Rubber Mills for 15 years and then relocated to Gillette, Wyo., where he worked in the oil fields until his retirement. He returned to Wisconsin in 2003 due to ill health, where he resided with his son, Tom, and daughter-in-law, Patti, until his death. He married Mary (Liskovec) Ekstrom and they later divorced.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers; and one sister.
Survivors include his two sons, Tom (Patti) Nesseth and John Nesseth; three daughters, Jeanne Betsinger, Mary Jo (Paul) Bruha and Sharon (Hans) Hanson; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Private services will be at a later date.
We would like to thank the Tomah VA Hospice Unit for their wonderful care and support while Sid was there.
Ruth H. Hefti
LA CROSSE -- Ruth H. Hefti, 89, of La Crosse died Friday, Nov. 28, 2008.
She was born in Velva, N.D., on April 8, 1919, to Rudolph and Hilma (Wick) Robertson. She married Donald E. Hefti on Oct. 27, 1949, in St. James the Less Catholic Church. He preceded her in death on Feb. 18, 1999. Ruth was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church for many years. She had worked at the Electric Auto-lite for 10 years.
Ruth is survived by three daughters, Linda Stout of Minneapolis, Nancy (Douglas) Siebenaler of Bangor and Mary Jane (Patrick) McElligott of La Crosse; two sons, Thomas and Frederick Hefti, both of La Crosse; grandchildren, Casey and Jonathan Stout, Melissa, Andrew and Brandon Siebenaler and Kyle and Christine McElligott; a nephew, Charles (Jean) Robertson and family. She will be sadly missed by her family and all who knew her.
In addition to her husband, Ruth was preceded in death by a brother, Harold and his wife, Faye; and a nephew, Warren Robertson.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Wednesday in Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 124 Losey Blvd. S. The Rev. Douglas Robertson, a great-nephew of Ruth, will officiate, and entombment will be in St. Francis of Assisi Mausoleum in Catholic Cemetery. Friends may call from
10 a.m. Wednesday until the time of services at the church.

Emma M.C. Kelly
ONALASKA — Emma M. C. Kelly, 90, of Onalaska died Friday, Nov. 28, 2008, at Onalaska Care Center.
She was born Nov. 5, 1918, in Barre Mills to John and Emma (Radtke) Loging. Emma lost her father to the influenza epidemic three days after her birth. In 1921, her mother died as the result of a tragic accident. She was raised by her grandparents and later by her aunt and uncle. On Dec. 27, 1944, Emma married Sidney Kelly in California, where they made their home. Sid passed away on May 1, 1994. Emma remained in her home in Hesperia, Calif., until 2001. Her family moved her back to Wisconsin, where she lived at Sterling House in Onalaska. She had been a resident of Onalaska Care Center for the past few months.
Emma is survived by her sister-in-law, Jeanette Loging; her brother-in-law, Bill Kelly; and many nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband and her parents, Emma was preceded in death by three brothers, Ray, Elmer and Arthur Loging.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home, 907 Sand Lake Road, Onalaska. The Rev. Norris Baumann will officiate. Burial will take place in St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery in Barre Mills at a later date. Friends may call at from 1 p.m. Monday until the time of services at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Onalaska or to Luther High School, Onalaska.
