Several groups and people were honored by the La Crosse County Agricultural Society at its annual meeting Nov. 13 in West Salem.

The Ag Society recognized groups and an individual for their dedication and commitment to the LCAS and the La Crosse Interstate Fair. Groups honored included the Bangor and West Salem American Legion posts. Both groups have helped coordinate the beer garden during the fair and volunteered many hours to the task.

In addition, the West Salem American Legion has annually donated the use of its raffle turner during the Oktoberfest Race weekend. Accepting the awards were John Hammes for the Bangor American Legion and Jerry Van Oss and Nancy Brown for the West Salem American Legion.

Wayne Atchley also was recognized for his coordination efforts of the First Responder groups during the fair.

The organization also elected the following officers and board members for the coming year: Jeff Schmidt, president; Robbie Tenner, vice president; Marla Stello, secretary and 4-H adult leaders representative; Jim Hauser, treasurer; Barb Carter, Greg Sacia, Renee Pickar and Don Langrehr, directors; Don Bina, La Crosse County Board representative; Arlan Schmidt, financial advisor; and Steve Huntzicker UW Extension liaison.

The Ag Society Board of Directors meets on a regular basis to plan for the business operations and use of the La Crosse Interstate fairgrounds and hosts the La Crosse Interstate Fair. The 2009 fair dates are July 15-19.
