The Bangor volleyball team dropped to a second place tie with Hillsboro following a 0-3 loss at Royall on Thurs. Oct. 2.

Bangor trailed 3-9 early on in game one and could not overcome the shortfall falling 25-13 in game one.

The Cardinals found their rhythm early on in the second game taking a 3-1 lead behind the serving of senior Devin Tenner, but Royall’s Morgan Harris responded with back to back to back serving aces to give the Panthers the 6-4 advantage. Royall would push their lead all the way to a 25-13 win.

Bangor’s Alyssa Riley gave the Cardinals a bit of enthusiasm early on by leading the team to a 6-3 lead, but the visiting team watched as another Panther surge, spearheaded by a pair of Jenna Picha serving aces gave Royall the lead once more.

Bangor would not overcome the 11-9 deficit and would fall in game three 25-14.

Vs. New Lisbon

Amidst the clamor of homecoming week at Bangor High, the Cardinal netters posted a 3-0 win against the visiting New Lisbon Rockets on Tues. Sept. 30.

In front of a generous Parent’s Night crowd, the Bangor volleyball team started the night off with a 4-1 lead over the Rockets. However, a Haley Woggon serving ace, coupled with a pair of Jill Niles kills gave New Lisbon the 8-6 advantage. Bangor used a Kristen Radke kill to take the 23-22 lead later on, and hold on for the 25-22 win.

It was more of the same in game two as New Lisbon pushed out to a 12-7 lead, but a pair of Alyssa Riley serving aces tied the game at 14. Senior Carrie Miller would come up with a pair of kills to end the game 25-23 in favor of Bangor.

A frustrated Rocket team tried their hand at defeating the Cardinals one last time in game three. After overcoming a big deficit, the Rockets closed to within one of Bangor, but the Cardinals were able to swing the momentum and close the game 25-20.

“We have to stay up and keep cheering each other,” said senior Emily Gerke about the team’s tenacity when facing a shortfall on the scoreboard. “It helps when Carrie Miller goes like this (motions with arms). We all know that’s a good play then, so then we’re all pumped up. We just keep going with it once she gets a play; once anyone gets a good play.”
