Hancock takes leave from Red Cross to campaign

American Red Cross Scenic Bluffs Chapter Director Cheryl Hancock will begin a leave of absence Monday to focus on her campaign for the 94th Wisconsin Assembly seat.

Hancock, a Democrat from Holmen, is challenging Assembly Speaker Mike Huebsch, R-West Salem, on the Nov. 4 ballot.

Red Cross officials announced the formal leave today, assuring her absence wouldn't result in any interruption of services.

"Cheryl has developed a strong team at the chapter and during this time the board is ready to work with the staff to continue to provide the services needed by residents in our chapter's delivery area," according to a press release. "This leave is not required by the national organization but is an example of Cheryl's commitment to the organization's fundamental principles including humanity, impartiality, neutrality, independence, voluntary service, unit and universality."
