The construction of a new baseball field, a softball field and an all-purpose field is going strong just east of the high school and adjacent to the interstate in Bangor. This phase of the project is expected to cost $108,000 and the entire project is being funded by the Bangor Booster Club.

“We’ve already raised most of that $108,000, and we’re hoping to have a good fundraising winter,” said Scott Riley, a member of the Bangor School Board and the booster club.

McHugh Excavating is grading the site. Also on the agenda for this fall is a drainage and irrigation system, plus landscaping and seeding of the fields.

“Our goal is to have playable fields by next spring. That might be somewhat lofty, but that’s our aim,” Riley said.

Riley also wanted to thank all the people who donated bricks for the project. “That has gone really well and has made a tremendous difference,” he said.

The project was jump-started by twin donations of $10,000 each by the village and the school district, and by a $15,000 donation from the Parks and Recreation Department.

The booster club will still gladly accept donations from anyone who wants to buy a brick, which will be on display at the new park. Forms are available at area businesses or donors can call any booster club member.
