A young Bangor girls cross country team continued to improve this season as they tied for fourth with Blair-Taylor at the 16th annual Cashton Invitational with 94 points.

Bangor, which qualified for the WIAA state cross country meet as a team a year ago, has plenty of growing to do as the team is made up solely of freshmen and sophomores.

“We could probably run a bit better as a team,” said sophomore Aubry Ray, who finished seventh overall at Cashton with a time of 18:20. “We’re trying to run competitively.”

Sophomore Mackenzie Koss also placed in the top 10 with a ninth-place finish.

The Bangor boys cross country team faced tough competition from solid Viroqua and Brookwood teams, but managed a fifth-place finish at Cashton.

Senior Tyler Arentz finished sixth with a time of 19:01.

Viroqua won both the boy’s and girl’s races with scores of 27 and 41, respectively.

The Bangor runners will be in action at the G-E-T Invite on Sept. 11. Race time is set for 4 p.m.
