The Coulee News publishes news about student achievements from elementary to college. Here is the latest good news about area students:

Onalaska Luther High School graduate Jon Dable, an airman first class in the U.S. Air Force, recently completed 15 months of study in Mandarin Chinese at the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center in Monterey, Calif. He was awarded the Provost’s Award and was the only member of his graduating class to earn the highest possible score. Dable was selected with another airman to give the graduation address in both English and Chinese. He was awarded an associate of arts degree in foreign language and is now stationed at Goodfellow Air Force Base in Texas, where he is continuing his training to be an airplane interpreter.

Alyson Lokken of West Salem was named to the 2008 spring semester dean’s list at the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minn.

The following area students graduated from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse:

  • WEST SALEM: Laura Cullmann, BS in Management: Human Resource Emphasis; Amanda Degenhardt, BS in Management: Human Resource Emphasis, minor in Economics; Thomas Stark, BS in Recreation Management; Brendan Virnig, BS in Computer Science, minor in Information Systems; Tou Lo, Master of Software Engineering; Heather Jehn, Master of Science in Education, Professional Development; Justin Jehn, Master of Science in Education, Professional Development

  • BANGOR: Rebecca Viner, BS in Art; Tiffany Morgan, BS in Marketing, minor in Women’s Studies; Kristin Chapiewsky, BS (with honors) in Psychology, minor in Women’s Studies, Psychology Department
