Nearly picture perfect weather and well-behaved crowds made the 2008 version of Bangor’s Fun Daze stand out as one of the best in recent memory.
“We just had wonderful weather all weekend and the crowds were wonderful as well,” said Brian Berg, the popular event’s committee chairman.
The Family Olympics, new this year, went off quite well. “We had a nice crowd right away on Friday night and people enjoyed watching the beanbag toss, the kickball tournament and the potato toss,” Berg said.
The pancake breakfast on Saturday morning was well attended as was the canoe poker run and the fun/run walk that same morning. “We had almost 150 canoes and about 150 run/walkers. That’s real good when compared to previous years,” Berg said.
The Sunday parade lasted about an hour, with more than 70 entrants, according to Berg, and was quite a hit with the crowds lining the streets. “The crowd in the park after the parade was just wonderful, too,” Berg said.
Berg wanted it known that much of the work involved in putting together the affair fell to Lions Club members getting on in years. “About 70 percent of our members are 60 or over so the whole weekend is quite an undertaking,” Berg said. “It’s a big project for us and we greatly appreciate the community support.”
There were seven winners in the button contest. Winning numbers were 649, 579, 1433, 1708, 335, 428 and 801. Winners can pick up their prizes at Ray’s Barber Shop in Bangor.
