At its July 16 meeting, the Bangor School Board approved $10,000 for a project to improve slow-to-drain school athletic fields. Those fields are in need of better grading and storm sewers.
That motion was approved with the understanding that the village would match the $10,000.
A week later, the Bangor Village Board met in a special session to do just that. A motion by Randy Cook to match the school district’s investment in the storm sewer project was seconded by Dan Hesse and then approved. It passed, however, with the contingency that the school will let the village rec department use the fields during the summer months.
According to district Superintendent Roger Foegen, that is not likely to be a problem.
“We’ve worked pretty closely with the village for many years,” he said.
“Our baseball team has used the village park for just about forever — and their rec programs use our gyms and the soccer field. It’s been a benefit to both parties and we fully intend to continue that kind of cooperation,” Foegen added.
