The Trempealeau National Wildlife Refuge will host a presentation on how scientists study changing environmental conditions from 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, June 25.
Alisa Gallant and Walt Sadinski of the U.S. Geological Survey will explain how scientists use tools such as satellites in the sky and automated recorders on the ground to measure environmental conditions across different, but complementary, scales of space and time.
Managers of national wildlife refuges, such as the Trempealeau National Wildlife Refuge, need such information to understand how ecosystems they manage might change over time.
After the talk, discussion will adjourn outside on the observation deck to listen for calling amphibians and other animals on the refuge using parabolic microphones.
To get to the refuge from La Crosse area, take Highway 53 north to Highway 54 west. Follow 54 west to Centerville and continue 3.1 miles to West Prairie Road. Turn left on West Prairie Road and drive one mile to the refuge entrance, then follow the paved road to the refuge office.
Space is limited and reservations are required. Call (608) 539-2311, ext 16, for reservations.
