Published - Tuesday, June 24, 2008 Annual adoptathon back with new schedule and activities The Coulee Region Humane Society will debut a new schedule for its fourth annual adoptathon. Executive Director Heather Schmid said the Onalaska shelter will be open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. June 28 and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. June 29 to attract more potential families rather than the straight 24 hours it had been open in the past. “Our goal really is to raise awareness of animals in search of housing,” Schmid said. “I believe these hours will draw more people.” Schmid said a limited number of people came to apply for animals during the overnight hours during past adoptathons, which prompted the committee to revise the schedule. The goal is to adopt 22 animals during the two-day event, Schmid said. There are more than 70 currently available. “We can do that with help from the community,” she said. This year’s event will offer a Hawaiian luau theme. Among the activities planned are: AT A GLANCE
