For the week of May 23-30, the West Salem Police Department wrote 16 traffic citations, wrote one municipal citation, issued 10 warnings and responded to three traffic accident. The following is a selection of incidents.

Friday, May 23

1:16 a.m. — An 18-year-old Bangor man was cited for failure to stop at a stop sign.

5:09 a.m. — A traffic accident was reported at the intersection of Highway 16 and Gills Coulee Road when a 1998 Ford Taurus struck a deer. The operator, a 44-year-old West Salem man, was traveling eastbound on Highway 16.

Saturday, May 24

12:07 a.m. — A 26-year-old West Salem woman was cited for failure to stop at a stop sign.

5:55 p.m. — A 22-year-old West Salem woman was arrested on two counts of theft of a firearm. The woman allegedly took two rifles totalling $600 in value from a residence on the 400 block of E. Garland Street.

Thursday, May 29

4:30 a.m. — A 34-year-old La Crosse man was arrested for a fourth offense of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated and cited for a second offense of operating a motor vehicle while revoked.

11:58 p.m. — An 18-year-old Onalaska woman was cited for making an improper left turn when her 2001 Dodge Neon struck and broke a stop sign at the intersection of W. Elm and S. Youlon streets. The woman, who was traveling eastbound on Elm Street when she turned northbound onto Youlon Street, said she misjudged the corner.

Friday, May 29

2:23 a.m. — A 33-year-old Rockland man was arrested on a third offense of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated.
