A West Salem man died last week after he was pinned between two vehicles at his residence.

Jason R. Lincoln, 37, was pronounced dead at the scene at his Anderson Mobile Home Park residence on Friday, May 30. It appears the accident occurred while he was working on a vehicle in his garage, according to West Salem Police Chief Charles Ashbeck.

Ashbeck said it appears as if Lincoln had been working on a Chevrolet Corvette that was on ramps and a hydraulic jack when he lowered the jack. The Corvette then rolled off the ramps and pushed Lincoln backwards and into the front of a Ford F150 that was parked behind him.

Lincoln was pinned between the two vehicles. The cause of death is listed as asphyxiation.

“The fatal mistake was that the car was in neutral,” Ashbeck said.

Ashbeck said it is unknown how long Lincoln was pinned between the vehicles, although the accident occurred between 3:30 p.m., when he took his two children to the Boys & Girls Club of West Salem Area, and 4:54 p.m., when a neighbor discovered him and called 911.

West Salem police were the first to respond to the scene, lot 243 at 800 West Ave., and were able to push the Corvette off Lincoln with the assistance of neighbors. West Salem First Responders and Tri-State Ambulance arrived at the scene and were unable to resuscitate Lincoln.

Lincoln, a Sparta High School graduate, lived alone but was frequently visited by his children, Ashbeck said.

“From everything I’ve heard, his children were everything to him,” Ashbeck said. “He was a good guy, and this is a real loss for his kids.”

Also assisting at the scene were the La Crosse County Sheriff’s Department and the La Crosse County Medical Examiner’s Office.
