West Salem Police Department

For the week of May 9-16, the West Salem Police Department wrote 10 traffic citations, issued eight warnings and responded to one accident. The following is a selection of incidents.

Monday, May 12

9:22 a.m. — A 52-year-old West Salem man reported someone had siphoned 15 gallons of gasoline out of a Beyer Cabinets company truck.

7:34 p.m. — A 47-year-old West Salem man was cited for having an expired vehicle registration.

Tuesday, May 13

1:02 a.m. — A 24-year-old Sparta man was arrested for a fourth offense of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated and cited for a fourth offense of operating a vehicle after revocation, open intoxicants in a motor vehicle, bail jumping and possession of drug paraphernalia.

4:01 p.m. — A 35-year-old West Salem woman was cited for non-registration of a vehicle.

Wednesday, May 14

3:50 p.m. — A 22-year-old Sparta woman was cited for operating a vehicle after suspension.

5:39 p.m. — A 31-year-old West Salem woman reported a $200 bicycle stolen from a residential storage shed on the 200 block of Jefferson Street.

10:05 p.m. — A 21-year-old West Salem man was cited for operating a vehicle after suspension.

Thursday, May 15

12:17 p.m. — Police responded to an accident at the intersection of Highway 16 at Griswold Avenue involving a 26-year-old Mindoro woman driving a 1995 Oldsmobile and a 29-year-old Melrose man driving a 1995 Chevrolet Beretta.

The woman, traveling northbound on Griswold Avenue, was stopped at a stop sign while the man was traveling eastbound on Highway 16.

The woman stated she did not see the oncoming vehicle and pulled out from the stop sign to turn onto Highway 16, and the man’s vehicle struck the woman’s vehicle.

Occupants in the Oldsmobile included a 4-year-old Mindoro boy and a 5-month-old Mindoro boy; occupants in the Beretta included a 32-year-old Black River Falls woman. No injuries were reported.

The driver of the Oldsmobile was cited for failure to yield from a stop sign and operating a vehicle after suspension.
