Published - Tuesday, May 13, 2008 Arcadia dominates Cardinal meet, but Bangor girls take 2nd while boys are 5th The Bangor girls track and fields team’s run at another meet victory was stopped short last week at the hands of Arcadia. At the Cardinal Invitational on April 29, Arcadia won the 13-team girls meet while Bangor came in second. Bangor junior Stephanie Peters led the way for her team by taking first in the shot put with a throw of 30-00 3/4, and she also was first in a three-way tie in the pole vault with a vault of 9-06. Freshman Maryann Hundt was second in the shot put for the Bangor girls with 29-08 1/2, and teammate Megan Gerke, a senior, was second in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:31.49. Bangor senior Emily Schroeder took third in the 3,200-meter run with a time of 12:36.25. Bangor’s 4x800-meter relay team of senior Kriston Siemianowski, freshman Mackenzie Koss, Gerke and Schroeder took first (10:05.41). The girls 4x400-meter relay of junior Carrie Miller, sophomore Kelli Cleveland, Siemianowski and Koss came in third (4:21.92). The Arcadia girls were able to win five events and crack the top three places in three other events, securing a win with 132 points, ahead of Bangor’s 92. Cashton came in third (83.33), followed by Onalaska (70) and Sparta (68). Arcadia was also strong in the boys competition, winning seven events — including a first- through third-place sweep in the triple jump — and their 162.20 points was good enough for first in the 13-team meet. Onalaska followed with 125.60, Pittsville was third with 80.60, Sparta was fourth with 79.50 and Bangor was fifth with 57. The Bangor boys grabbed three second places with senior Joey Vargo (110-meter hurdles, 16.03), senior Chuck Pember (100-meter dash, 12.01) and junior A.J. Bedessem (300-meter hurdles, 42.51). Cardinal senior Tyson Roh rounded out Bangor’s top third-place finishers with a third in the discus (139-05). The Bangor Cardinals were set for the Arcadia Invitational on Tuesday and they will be at the Wisconsin Dells Invitational on Friday. The conference meet is on May 13.
