Published - Thursday, March 13, 2008 Village sets 2008 street projects W. Franklin Street, Wagon Drive and Linden Lane will be on the list of street projects for West Salem this year. Following a West Salem Street Committee meeting on Feb. 28, the village board approved the projects at its March 4 meeting. The projects will include reconstruction of W. Franklin Street and Linden Lane and sidewalk installation on Wagon Drive. Village Administrator Teresa Schnitzler said bids for each project will be advertised and awarded this month. After bids are reviewed, she said approximate costs and project start dates will be known. “Once we get a more firm time line, then we’ll have an informational meeting where people can come up and ask questions,” Schnitzler said. The W. Franklin Street project will run from N. Harmony Street to N. Oak Street and will somewhat realign the street while adding sanitary sewer and curb and gutter. The street currently has varying width from 27 feet to 37 feet; the project will make the street width at least 32 feet. The project will also add two-and-a-half feet to the north side of W. Franklin Street and two feet to the south side. The reconstruction of Linden Lane will include culvert replacement and possibly curb and gutter replacement. Residents will have access to driveways limited or restricted during certain periods of the project. The Wagon Drive project will add sidewalk to both sides of the street from Brickl Road to the north end of Wagon Drive. The project had originally been slated for 2007 but was postponed after bids came in higher than expected. Residents will be assessed for the project, and approximate costs will be known once bids are awarded.
