Village People to hold annual meeting
The Village People of West Salem will hold its annual meeting and social Tuesday, Nov. 6 from 7-9 p.m. at the Boys & Girls Club of West Salem Area, 134 N. Leonard St.
The meeting, which is open to the public, will allow people to socialize and recognize the progress of the Village People.
Attendees are asked to bring an hors d’oeuvre or a dessert; beverages will be provided.

Local church holding annual festival
The annual Fall Festival at the Presbyterian Church of West Salem will be held on Saturday, Nov. 10 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Proceeds from the festival will be used for local and worldwide mission projects. The public is invited to attend.
There will be a homemade cookie sale while supplies last. The cost is $6 per pound.
There will be games for children throughout the day and there will be a craft table.
Raffle items include a $50 savings bond, embroidered pillow cases, a Packer afghan, a holiday table runner and a decorative wooden wagon.
Grammy-winning reggae band coming
The Grammy Award-winning Maytals Band will give a concert at UW-La Crosse. The group performs at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 1, in Valhalla, Cartwright Center-Gunning Addition.
The Maytals Band helped establish the foundation of reggae music. Continually redefining the sound of modern reggae, the band infuses its music with rock, blues, funk, pop and soul for a rich tapestry of energetic sound with universal appeal.
The Maytals Band is no stranger to hit music. It has been well-known for decades for albums and world tours with Toots Hibbert, the godfather of reggae. In 2005, the band’s album “True Love” won the Grammy for Best Reggae Album.
Band members hold the Guinness World Record for shortest time between the recording and release of a live album — “TOOTS LIVE at the Hammersmith Palais.”
The band has performed with legendary musicians such as Bob Marley and the Wailers, the Rolling Stones, Willie Nelson, Jack Johnson, Bonnie Raitt, Paul Simon, Cat Stevens, Eric Clapton, Al Green, Jimmy Cliff, No Doubt, Ryan Adams, Ben Harper and more. The Maytals band is known for Leba Hibbert’s voice, backed up by a number of accomplished musicians.

Emergency team to hold chili fundraiser
The West Salem Emergency Medical Team will be hosting its 28th annual team fundraiser by holding a chili supper.
The event will be held Thursday, Nov. 8 from 4-7 p.m. at the West Salem Elementary School cafeteria.
The menu includes chili, cheese, crackers, bread, milk or coffee and ice cream. A donation of $6 for adults is requested; children under 10 are $3.
This year all profits from the chili supper will be going to new equipment for the team.
All members of the West Salem Emergency Medical Team are volunteers and are looking for more members. If you might be interested in the team and would like more information about the observer program, come to an informational meeting Nov. 11 at 7 p.m. at the First Responder building at 567 Brickl Road in West Salem.
Herberger’s helps service dog program
Capable Canines of Wisconsin and Herberger’s have teamed up for a Care to Share Community Day, with funds raised going toward the cost of providing service dogs to the disabled.
For a $5 donation to Capable Canines, people will receive a $10 coupon toward any Herberger’s purchase more than $10 and six additional coupons for 20 percent off. The coupons are good only on Saturday, Nov. 10.
People can purchase a coupon book by contacting Capable Canines at 781-4419. Coupon books also will be sold at Herberger’s in the Valley View Mall from 4 to 9 p.m. Oct. 26 and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 31.
Downtown trick-or-treating is back
Downtown trick-or-treating in West Salem is fast approaching and will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 31 from 3-6 p.m.
Participating business will have signs displayed welcoming trick-or-treaters. Other businesses will be giving away treats on Leonard Street near Village Hall and Union State Bank.
