Middle school track holds last home meet

The West Salem Middle School track and field teams held their last home meet last Thursday, competing against La Crescent, Logan, Bangor and Aquinas.

The girls placed second, with a total of 53.5, after falling short a half point to Aquinas, while the boys also placed second behind Logan, with a total of 65.5 to the Rangers’ 101.

Kelsey Novak took first placed in both the 1,600-meter run and the 800-meter run with times of 5:44.72 and 2:38.94, respectively.

First place in the long jump was C.J. Bina, jumping 14 feet even. Jessica Welch also took first place in high jump with a jump of 4-06; she also placed fourth in the long jump (12-10.5).

The boys had a great effort but fell short of first place by 35.5 points. The boys 4x200 relay team took first with a time of 1:45.68, and the 4x100 team also finished first running 50.66.

Alex Koenen took first place in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.88. Also finishing first was Zach Gersch in the 800 with a time of 2:25.03.
